| The Poms have a
Spitz ancestry from Iceland and Lapland. They have been bred down to
today's size over the years. They still think they are big dogs.
Pomeranians are so playful and
affectionate. They seem to
make a perfect lap dog, yet
they like a playful romp. Ours seem to be bouncing balls at times.
They love to jump when they see us but do not jump on us. They are
easy to train and obedient dogs. They like to please.
Emphasis is on good proportions more
than staying within a weight range. Our Poms weigh from 3 1/2 lbs.
to 8 1/2 lbs.
height: 8-11"
weight: 3-7 lbs. life span: 12-16 yrs.
The Pom's
outer-coat is profuse, coarse, and straight. The undercoat is soft
and thick. The colors come in a wide range; red, orange, cream,
sable, black & tan, and particolor.
They have fox like
ears that are small and erect, the tails curl over the back. They do
need to be brushed each week. Special attention needs to be made of
keeping the hair clipped around the anus. This will keep the clean
and healthy.
As with all breeds
they can be prone to certain health problems. It is very important
to keep their teeth cleaned and have a cleaning by a vet regularly
to prevent gum disease. Your vet can advise you on this. The
majority of toy breeds are prone to knee problems, either from
hereditary or injury. So always ask about the knees when looking for
a toy breed for your family. Be informed and ask a vet about any
concerns before purchasing. |
